In the rush of busy life it is easy to forget to be grateful for one of the most precious things on the planet -- our child's smile.
As a dentist I spend a lot of time focusing on everything needed to maintain that smile in its healthiest state.
But today I want to think about and be thankful for all that goes behind that smile.
What is a smile?
A smile is our kids way of sharing delight in their world and the sheer exuberant spirit that never seems to go out for more than the time it takes to sleep and recharge.
It is the acknowledgement that something we did made them feel loved and warm.
A smile is the reward they give us for stopping and noticing the treasure that they bring to our lives.
Or an expression of the gregarious good humor we all wish we could recapture. The days where funny was big and loud and lasted as long as it lasted.
And, their smiles can even be the first toothy sign of their drive to assert themselves in ways that will ultimately create our future.
So I encourage the feeding of those smiles and the spirits behind them on this family holliday weekend.
...And of course, the brushing up afterwards.
